Creative Floral Artistry
in Los Angeles
The combination of flowers and porcelain pieces has long been one of the most attractive activities for avid Franz collectors.
Instructor Yeh, Meiying, who has years of experience in teaching floral arrangement, was invited to give a demonstration at our recent “Creative Floral Artistry” event held in the Gifted Collector in Los Angeles.
She interacted with the audience, giving them tips for arranging flowers and leaves together with Franz porcelain pieces.
Ms. Yeh is originally from Taiwan. She learned floral arrangement from her friend after high school and taught in a college for some years.
She also gave lessons to a group of nurses in Taiwan. Interestingly enough, many nurses met their Mr. Right after taking her lessons.
Ms. Yeh thinks that learning floral arrangement is a pleasant experience and can help people connect with others in better ways.
She emigrated to America 30 years ago and started a new life. She learned Western floral arrangement in Califonia and got a certificate.
She loves floral arrangement and gives courses on a regular basis at CWLLAC.
She thinks that floral design requires one to have abundant creativity and also to keep up with the times.
For many years, she and her students have organized floral shows to celebrate Mother’s Day and Taiwan’s National Day. Her students love her as she is easy-going, likes helping people and her creativity always inspires them.
Breaking with the established conventions of Eastern and Western floral artistry, Instructor Yeh is totally free to create her own unique works.
Take the “Hibiscus” vase for example, since the porcelain piece features a bright color, she decided to use green plants and pink roses to set off the pink hibiscus handcrafted on the porcelain piece.
For the swan vase, she made a bridal bouque using pink roses and put a bridal veil around the vase to create a romantic feel.
Some florists might find the large giraffe vase hard to handle, but not for Ms. Yeh. She stuck a thick branch into the vase and added some exotic flowers from the Tropics.
Simple but with a style! How about an arrangement “outside” the vase? She put a piece of wood in front of the vase as if the giraffes were resting in a jungle.
With a “cubist” style, she used leaves of different shapes to decorate the Picasso vase, echoing its geometrial patterns.
What could be more fun than this? Just bend the horsetail grass on the peace and harmony platter, now the bird is ready to sail forward!
Instructor Yeh pointed out that for flower vases that bear strong decorative effects, the flower arrangement materials to be used should be as plain as possible, for simple decoration can give the vases a nice, finishing touch.
This amazing floral arrangement event brought happiness to the attendees and gave them a
glimpse of the beauty of art.
