When Franz Meets Flora at Saks Fifth Avenue
Jeff Chen’s unique floral arrangements
On November 6, a special floral event was held at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beachwood, Ohio. It was the department store’s first floral event, and it was also Franz’s first event of this kind in a US Luxury department store. With great honor, the porcelain company was able to invite a celebrated New York floral designer Jeff Chen and his assistant Amy Lemaire to give an extraordinary demonstration.
• Jeff and his creative work
Jeff ’s creative designs opened a whole new world for the highly selective Saks’ customers. They not only fell in love with Franz but also enjoyed Jeff ’s interactive demonstration.
• Beautiful Ina - the General Manager of the store
Memories were made, smiles were seen, a good time was had by all! As the top Saks Home Department manager, Laura was impressed by Franz.
• Long leaf knots as Japanese origami
Her enthusiasm for this line was enjoyed by the customers and staff alike.
• Saks Fifth Avenue, Beachwood
Jeff recently worked with Lady Gaga’s fashion designer Nicola on a pop-up shop project in Manhattan.
As the creative
director of Flora New York, he has established himself with a free style and boundless creativity.
Customer making flower strings
For this challenge, he cut long leaves in half and glued zippers in between. If this is not wild enough, how about ginger roots on a big giraffe vase? In this Saks event, Jeff amazed the audience with extremely unique and beautiful arrangements.
• Jeff and his creative work
For the colorful vase “The Courtesan” inspired by Van Gogh, Jeff used a recycled frame of a Chinese lantern for a tree-like structure. In order to reflect the famous Japanese art - origami, he asked the audience to fold long leaves and make knots which were tied to the structure as if it was a wish tree.
• Cozy bird in moss
He also added purple orchids and bright yellow billy balls to show a color contrast. The finished arrangement had an avant-garde style.
• Vegetables also work
Vegetables for the arrangement? Everything is possible in Jeff ’s work! He stuck wires with mushroom, beets and color peppers into the oasis and filled the rest of the basket with a variety of flowers.
• Class in session
“Color clustering” is the key! How about giving the flowers a massage? After the calla lilies get relaxed, their stems show graceful curves… Why not pick Franz as gifts for your beloved ones and make some floral arrangements at home? Jeff ’s advice for beginners: “Confidence is all you need!”
