A Brand New Year of Hope and a Good Harvest
The porcelain pieces represent an endless circle of happiness, with abundance year after year.
FRANZ designer Lee has designed the “Luck and Peace” porcelain figurine. This piece features the endangered Asian elephant and represents blessings. Asian elephants have a mellow personality, a high IQ, and they live in herds for mutual care and protection. The porcelain work presents a natural setting where six energetic elephants gather in a grassy field, suggesting a peaceful time bursting with vitality and experiencing a good harvest. Moreover, Chinese culture regards the elephant as a wondrous animal, saying that a country with elephants has peace while a household with elephants enjoys blessings. In Indian culture, the elephant is a symbol of strength, longevity, and wisdom.
A careful examination of this porcelain piece reveals naughty monkeys sitting, reclining, or frolicking behind the bushes. This is a cleverly added element that not only brings energy and a charming sense of playfulness but, because the word for “monkey” also sounds similar to the phrase “granting peerage,” the addition also hints of promotion and success.
The “Good Harvest” porcelain piece is FRANZ’s first attempt to create an item based on rice grains swaying in the wind – a gift of the earth with divine blessings. Revealing the designer’s ingenuity, this porcelain piece shows rice plants under the azure sky, their heads bending under the weight of bountiful tiny grains; this symbolizes a good harvest after hard labor. It represents an endless circle of happiness, with abundance year after year.
