The male mallard has a glossy bottle-green head and neck with a white collar that demarcates the head from the brown breast, glowing like a pearl underneath the golden sun. In Japan, the mallard is also referred to ‘lucky duck’, it is viewed as ‘the guardian of wealth’ that brings good luck and wealth.
Franz designer James Tsai likes watching the blithe and carefree birds frolicking in the woods and draws inspiration from them as themes for his creations. For example, the lovely blue-winged pittas from the Bamboo Song Bird Collection and the black-throated birds from the Black-throated Passerine Collection.
Guardian: The Most Beautiful Scene of Life
James takes inspiration from a mallard flock he encountered by the pond , using them as the theme for creating the Guardian Porcelain Vase. He recalls that on the surface of the lotus pond, the father duck led the flock with three baby ducks following closely behind, guarded by the tender mother duck swimming at the back.
This image shows the intimacy of the family that made him realize the firm and deep parental love, which explains why he wants to capture this touching moment as an inspiration for creating the vase.
A Touching, Everlasting Moment
The Guardian Porcelain Vase’s round body symbolizes the pond, with the father mallard stretching its wings to guard the family while affectionately gazing at the mother and baby birds on the pond. The look in the father bird’s eyes is firm and warm, vividly showing its exuberant happiness.
