Fluttering, Colorful Butterflies
Companion –
Heng-chun Birdwing Butterfly vase
Specifically, the ”Companion” porcelain vase features an ingenious combination of butterflies (Golden Birdwing, a protected butterfly species in Taiwan) and blossoms (Iris formosana Ohwi), showing an idyllic scenery through their dialogue.
The pierced vase body adds texture and visual interest, offering enough room for the vividly sculpted butterflies to show their graceful postures.
As the Iris formosana Ohwi has up to 9 lithe petals, the sculptor not only had to meticulously carve out graceful, vivid flowers, but also took into consideration the feasibility of production.
Moreover, the vase body shows a gradient of blue and green, mimicking a delightful scene where the sky and waters merge, with the blossoms swaying in the wind, while showing an endless cycle of life.
