"Venice" – Peony Design
Marco Polo’s trip to China
led to the beautiful cultural collision of the West and the East
It was a legendary story and a life of wonders.
In the imagination of Venetian glass
The Chinese peonies blossom in the garden,
shy and smiling
With the celebration ambiance of red color
They are the auspice of a
peaceful era, happiness and fortune.

Marco Polo spent twenty years traveling in the Orient, and later described what he had seen and heard in The Travels of Marco Polo, a travelogue in which he detailed the then-booming porcelain industry in China; for that reason, the book serves as a rich source of inspiration for Franz designers in their porcelain creations.

The Travels of Marco Polo is a legendary book with a strong exotic flavor. The text describes how he was amazed when he first saw Chinese porcelain artwork. The book helps capture this extraordinary encounter of the western traveler and the Eastern culture into eternity. Drawing inspiration from this, Franz designers create their artwork around the theme of blooming peonies to introduce the Venice-Peony Collection.

This Collection demonstrates a wonderful blend of Eastern and Western cultures. Since Marco Polo was an Italian merchant traveler, our designers decided to combine the Venetian glass blowing technique with the traditional Chinese style porcelain, bringing together cross cultural artistic elements that produce hihgly innovative porcelain pieces. Moreover, this collection purposely features a vibrant red that is typical to China, throwing into relief the nobility of the pale pink peonies handcrafted on the pieces.
